We are very grateful to Kristina Martin Charitable Trust for awarding us at BYCP a grant to go towards our sports hall activities.
This funding of £10,000 will go towards the core costs of improving and delivering our sports provision, which is the most effective and in-demand part of our programme for reducing social isolation among young people in Britwell. Since the Britwell Boys' Club first opened in the late 1950s/early 1960s, our sports activities have consistently created the strongest sense of self-esteem, connection and community.
Britwell is a disadvantaged area and so our youth club members are at higher risk of facing loneliness, poor mental health and limited access to safe, recreational spaces. As the only dedicated youth centre remaining in Slough, we have become a trusted community asset and a vital lifeline for young people who would otherwise spend long periods alone, at home, or withdrawn from positive social environments. Our sports sessions are often the first point of connection for young people who struggle socially, lack confidence, or feel excluded in school or at home.
Our sports youth worker, Billy says "This funding will have a huge impact on our young people by giving them access to better equipment and more varied sports activities. It will allow us to introduce sessions like gymnastics - helping young people develop new skills, improve their confidence and enjoy being active in a safe and supportive environment."
Kristina Martin Charitable Trust aims to champion mental well-being and provide grants to grassroots charities who work to tackle particularly suicide, online bullying & grief, and foster hope and resilience for positive change which promotes a move to a kinder society and more supportive environment.
Britwell Youth and Community Project is the only dedicated youth centre left in Slough. We work to empower young people by providing leisurely activities to connect with others, inspire and raise their aspirations and contribute to personal development and a positive outlook later in life.
