About us
The Britwell Youth and Community Project (BYCP) has been serving the children, young people and wider community of Britwell for almost 70 years. We are committed to enhance our work over the coming years in order to support children and young people to make a successful transition into adulthood.
BYCP provides varied leisurely activities for young people every Tuesday and Thursday after school and during the school holiday periods. Currently, our provision consists of:

-
Sports - our sports hall and outside court hosts football, cheer & gymnastics, basketball and trampolining.
-
Music - our recording studio supervised by our music & media technician where young people can learn how to rap, sing and produce their own music.
-
Gaming & IT - our gaming room and consoles, supervised by our youth workers where young people can develop their digital skills and play against each other in e-tournaments.
-
Arts & Crafts and Accessories - Whether it's jewellery making or tie-dying, our arts & crafts station is sometimes considered as therapeutic and is a chance for young people to participate in a creative activity while engaging in conversations and learning more about each other while producing art pieces
-
Tuck Shop - Introducing the concept of enterprise to youth club members, teaching them the basics of buying and selling snacks and drinks. Our tuck shop also encourages members to engage in other activities in our provision as opposed to buying food outside, where there is a risk of anti-social behaviour.

Our beneficiaries include 400+ young people (aged 8+) who use our services each year as well as the wider community who as parents and carers have a safe environment to send their children too.
In 2010, Britwell Youth & Community Project was awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service. This unique UK national honour was created by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to mark the Golden Jubilee in 2002 and to recognise the outstanding contributions made to local communities by groups of volunteers. It has an equivalent status for voluntary groups as the MBE has for individuals.
Our story
BYCP has served the community of Britwell and surrounding areas for almost 60 years. The club was purpose built as a 'Boys Club' in the late 1950’s and worked in partnership with a youth centre further up Wentworth Avenue as well as a children’s play centre on Long Furlong Drive. Between the three sites, we managed to provide a much needed youth service to hundreds of children and young people every week.

In the 1990’s the 'Boys Club' changed its name to 'Britwell Youth and Community Project' (BYCP) which better reflected the work it was then engaged in. With the demise of Berkshire County Council and the arrival of Unitary Authorities in 1998, the new authority closed both the youth centre and the Children’s Play Centre, leaving BYCP as the only provider of youth services on the Britwell Estate.

BYCP has only survived because it is a voluntary centre, it is owned by it's trustees and is managed by it's own Management Committee. It has always had to raise a great proportion of its own running costs both in paying part time staff and the up keep and renovation of the building and the equipment.

The building is used primarily for youth related activity, but also houses other community groups on a regular basis.
